Machin’s Overstruck by New Jersey

Slightly glossy light to medium brown blending to darker olive brown in protected areas. The surfaces appear smooth but there is microscopic granularity in the fields and protected areas on both sides. No verdigris of notable marks. The 1787 date on the New Jersey is dull and quite faint but the entire 1772 date for the undertype Machin’s is complete and clear (at the right top of the shield on the New Jersey). A very rare overstrike on a very rare Machin’s variety. Fills two holes in that colonial collection. Weight 115.3 grains.
