Struck over a 1785 C.5-E NOVA CONSTELLATIO. Technically sharper by at least ten points but there are some defects. Mostly glossy olive brown with lighter brown toning on the highpoints of the devices. Extremely fine granularity covers the fields and protected areas with slightly stronger roughness around ORI. No verdigris. The planchet is wavy and slightly bent, and there are rim bruises above the front of the face, at the top of the staff, and a smaller one over LI in LIB. Nicely centered and evidence of the undertype host coin is present on both sides. Later die state with die failure arcing through the T in AUCTORI and the head to CO in CONNEC. Weight 108.8 grains.

Ex Richard Kosta, 1998 C-4 Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 11/21/1998:233.
