Sharp GEORGIUS Variety
Sharpness EF40 or so but dark and moderately rough with traces of greenish verdigris in protected areas suggesting this piece may have been found in soil (or some other unfriendly environment). A few small areas are smooth and the only notable mark is a tiny rim bruise over the R in BRITAN. Dark steel brown and olive. Looks like a piece that was uncirculated or nearly so when it was “lost.” Later die state with obvious swelling in the centers. The date and legends are complete and strong. A good candidate for the sharpest known example of this very rare GEORGIUS variety. Weight 116.8 grains.
