Extremely Fine from a technical perspective but there are numerous tiny planchet flakes and microscopic fissures scattered over both sides, mostly in the centers (as struck). In addition there is a small area of very fine porosity from corrosion under the draped bust. Otherwise free of marks or other defects. Struck very slightly off center to K-9 leaving the lower part of the 17 off the planchet. Otherwise the date is strong and the legends are clear. Die clashmarks are visible in the fields on the reverse. A tough variety that was missing from the Ford collection; superior to the Perkins example and at least equal to the Taylor piece. Considered second finest by Rothschild. Certainly among the finest known of this very rare variety. Weight 166.9 grains.
