Sharper but the upper half of the obverse is covered with fine roughness and there is shallow greenish olive verdigris around ORI. The upper half of the portrait and lower half of the seated figure are covered with tiny planchet chips thanks to an incomplete strike, but everything else is smooth and well struck. Medium reddish chocolate brown with lighter brown on the highpoints. The obverse is nicely centered on the planchet; the reverse is off a bit to the bottom leaving the lower third of the date off the planchet. The rest of the date is bold and the legends are strong. Early die state, before the clashing and other failures often found on the obverse. Comparable to the Ford example, missing from the Perkins collection. Weight 134.3 grains.

Ex Robert M. Martin (includes the Martin collection envelope).
