A beautiful piece with lustrous fields and choice light to medium brown toning. Has mint state eye appeal but there is a touch of friction on the highest points of the devices. The only defects are the usual tiny planchet chips in the centers, a small patch of verdigris on the shin of the seated figure, and a small lamination at the rim before the head at the top of the reverse. A small, curved planchet clip affects the dentils at K-11 on the obverse and it touches the left end of the base of the 1 in the date. Otherwise the date is bold and the legends are strong. Clearly superior to the Taylor, Perkins, and Ford examples. A premium piece that comes with a great provenance. Weight 150.0 grains.
